Firstly - Rename existing MACHBASE folder to any name you can remember.
Personally I just add BK to beginning to make BKMACHBASE.
To do this, run WINDOWS EXPLORER, select MACHBASE folder
Right click mouse button and choose Rename from drop down menu. Type in or amend folder name.
Next Instal new version of MachinBase - run Instal.exe from CD.
Once you have installed new version, run application to ensure everything is set up correctly.
If you had a shortcut set up on your desktop, this should now run the new version.
If you have used MachinBase to keep track of your collection etc. you now need to transfer this data,
If you just use MachinBase for reference you can go ahead and test eveything before deleting old version.
Basically, to transfer collection data, you need to run ORIGINAL version, copy to clipboard, relevant information.
Close ORIGINAL, run NEW version, and paste in relevant information.
Which Fields to copy:
On SINGLESFORM [TABLE NAME = SINGLES2] there are 3 boxes used to produce reports.
1. Check to add to Collection . Field name = GOT
2. Check to print in Album. Field name = ALBUMPRINT
3. Add to Wants List?. Field name = WantslistIndctr
You may also want to copy the DUPLICATES Quantity . Field name = QTYINSTOCK
Having experimented achieving above, I have found the best/easiest way as follows.
Run the NEW application. Then from MAINMENU - click EXIT APPLICATION
(This closes the database but keeps you within the application)
STEP 1
From File Menu - choose Open Application
From Directories Find original (BKMACHBASE or whatever you renamed it to ) folder, double click on it to find 1STAMPS folder, click 1STAMPS to place STAMPDB in Application list. Click on STAMPDB and press OK
- enter your USER NAME in Application Security box (Password not necessary)
You are now inside old database from where we wish to copy from.
STEP 2
From Application Menu choose Open Catalog
From Tables activate (double click) SINGLES2
STEP 3 Copying
From EDIT menu choose Copy Special
From Fields list place GOT, ALBUMPRINT, and WantsListIndctr into the Selected Fields
(It doesn't matter what order you place them in)
From Record Selection choose All. Click OK and this data is now placed on Clipboard.
Close all windows until you reach MAINMENU and EXIT APPLICATION
Repeat STEP 1 but this time entering the new application.(MACHBASE)
Repeat STEP 2 (open catalog - activate SINGLES2)
STEP 3 Pasting
From EDIT menu choose Paste.
From Paste window click OK.
Note: Ensure cursor has not moved from Record [1] and Paste Window reads that Records will be pasted starting at Record[1].
Also note number [2297] will be less from your old version.
Finally AND most importantly click SAVE icon
Having successfully transferred Singles data, the rest should be a doddle,
simply substitute TABLE name and Field name/s to transfer Cylinder Block, Coils, Booklets and Panes data.
On SHEETFORM [TABLE NAME = SHEETS] there is 1 box used to produce reports.
Yellow Box to indicate block in collection. Field name = Field 578
On COILFORM [TABLE NAME = COILS] there is 1 box used to produce reports.
Yellow Box to indicate Coilstrip in collection. Field name = GOT
On BOOKFORM [TABLE NAME = BOOKLETS] there is 1 box used to produce reports.
Yellow Box to indicate Booklet in collection. Field name = gotplnbk
On PANESFORM [TABLE NAME = PANES] there is 1 box used to produce reports.
Yellow Box to indicate Pane in collection. Field name = gotplnbk
(Don’t worry that gotplnbk occurs twice - they are in different tables)
